In the town of Ine, in northern Kyoto, lies Ine Bay, home to a world-renowned landscape of "Funaya"—traditional boat houses lining the water's edge. "KURA" is a luxurious inn where you can enjoy the exclusive use of both the first and second floors of one of these historic Funaya. As we welcome only one group per day, you can relax in complete privacy without encountering other guests. We welcome you with sophisticated amenities and a premium interior that preserves the authentic charm of a Funaya.

Bath & Sauna

Our second-floor bath offers a moment of pure bliss with a panoramic view of Ine Bay. Enjoy an elevated bath time experience while gazing out at the stunning Funaya landscape. The bathroom is also equipped with a sauna and a cold plunge pool. Feel the gentle sea breeze on the terrace bench for a refreshing break—a unique experience only possible here in an Ine Funaya.

Dining Room

This relaxing dining room was once a space where fishermen docked their boats, used as a traditional Funaya until the early Showa period (mid-20th century). It offers a sweeping view of Ine Bay and the Funaya on the opposite shore. Step out onto the terrace, and you are right at the sea's edge. On a clear day, you can enjoy the beautiful sunset, a star-filled sky, and even spot marine life in the water below.

Exterior & Location

Our inn is one of the historic Funaya of Ine, offering a lifestyle closer to the sea than anywhere else in Japan. The windows frame a magnificent, uninterrupted view of Ine Bay.
What is a Funaya? A Funaya is a unique traditional building constructed at the very edge of the water. The first floor serves as a boat garage, and the second floor contains the living quarters.

Bookings are accepted for a minimum of two guests.
For safety reasons, children of junior high school age and younger are not permitted to stay. Guests of junior high school age and older are welcome at the standard adult rate.

As we are an exclusive inn for one group per day, please be sure to check our availability calendar before making a reservation.
Important Information & Policies
About Meals
Our inn offers accommodation only (no meals are provided). Cooking of any kind (including the use of personal hot plates) is strictly prohibited. For your meals, we recommend the local restaurants and shops in Ine Town.
Please be aware that on the day of your stay, some restaurants may be closed. In such cases, you are welcome to bring your own ready-to-eat food to enjoy at the inn. We kindly ask for your understanding on this point when making your reservation.

To protect and maintain this historic building, we do not provide cooking equipment such as stoves or pots. Bringing your own cooking appliances is also prohibited. (A refrigerator/freezer, electric kettle, and microwave are available for your use.)
Fire & Smoking Policy
Our inn is a precious wooden structure that cannot be rebuilt under current building codes, making it extremely vulnerable to fire. Therefore, open flames and smoking are strictly prohibited throughout the entire property. The use of any fireworks, including handheld ones, is also forbidden. We deeply appreciate your cooperation in preserving this unique cultural asset.
About Cooking in the Inn
Please refrain from bringing or preparing foods with strong odors (such as fish, crab, or rock oysters) inside the inn.
Fishing, Swimming, and Fireworks
For sanitation reasons and out of consideration for our neighbors, fishing from the inn is prohibited. Additionally, as swimming is not permitted anywhere in Ine Bay, it is also forbidden in front of our property.
